Turn difficult groundwater into a reliable water supply at up to 98% recovery.

Hydrovolta develops modular and project-engineered systems for brackish groundwater, hard water, and saline sources. Our systems recover more usable water with significantly lower residual brine than conventional membrane treatment. Where the concentrate has the right chemistry, we evaluate brine valorization pathways for selected chemical and mineral recovery.

Three operating contexts

Where conventional treatment reaches its limit.

Each of the following constraints has an active Hydrovolta deployment behind it.

01

Nitrate above the limit. Minerals still needed.

RO strips nitrate and everything else — including calcium and magnesium the output still requires. When the target is NO₃¯ compliance without full demineralisation, selective electrodialysis is the answer RO cannot give you.

02

Scaling kills the pilot before scale-up.

At silica above 60–80 mg/l combined with high hardness, RO membranes foul before the economics can be demonstrated. Acoustic cavitation prevents scaling at nucleation — before chemistry establishes itself on the membrane.

Germany Industrial Pilot
TDS 4,500 ppm · silica 85 mg/l · 90-day head-to-head vs RO
03

Brine volume makes the project unviable.

RO produces 25–50% brine. Inland sites with no coastal or river discharge face a disposal liability that kills the business case before technical evaluation begins. At 2–5% residual brine, the constraint changes character entirely.

Technology

SonixED™ — electrodialysis reversal strengthened by ultrasound.

SonixED™ combines electrodialysis reversal, ultrasound-assisted scaling control, and a proprietary selective membrane coating. Developed through institutional research partnerships over eight years. Patent granted 2021. Projects, pilots and pipeline across four continents.

EDR

Electrodialysis Reversal

Electric potential drives selected ions through membranes. Polarity reversal cleans membranes without chemical intervention. Stable output under variable feed TDS.

US

Ultrasound Anti-Scaling

Acoustic cavitation at the membrane surface prevents silica and hard-water scaling. 50–90% reduction in CIP cycles in validated operating contexts. Extended membrane lifespan.

SEL

Selective Ion Removal

Custom membrane coating removes nitrate, sodium, chloride, fluoride while retaining calcium and magnesium. Mineral-balanced output. No post-treatment remineralisation required.

Saudi Arabia — Selective Ion Recovery

Development-stage opportunity for selective ion recovery from deep brackish groundwater and brine streams. Pilot design in progress. MOU signed.

Who we work with

Water utilities, municipal authorities, and industrial operators.

Hydrovolta works with organisations that control a brackish groundwater source or process water stream, face a concrete water quality challenge, and need a solution that has been technically validated before full capital commitment.

We understand how projects are funded — through development bank financing, climate action programmes, bilateral aid, or industrial capital budgets. We have navigated all of these pathways in Belgium, Morocco, and Australia.

For government and public authority buyers: We are familiar with the reporting, governance, and milestone structures of development finance institutions and government climate programmes.

Engineering Assessment

Send the water data. We assess the fit.

Submit source water chemistry, TDS, target use, flow requirements, and any brine analysis. Our engineering team will assess whether SonixED™ or a brine valorization pathway is the right answer for your application — and tell you honestly if it is not.

No commercial obligation. All assessments are based on submitted water chemistry data.
