Applications

For operators with a difficult water source or a concentrated brine stream.

Hydrovolta’s strongest commercial opportunities share common characteristics: high value of recovered water, significant brine disposal liability, regulatory pressure on contaminant levels, or a brine stream with exploitable chemistry. The sectors below reflect where these conditions intersect with validated SonixED™ capability.

Target sectors

Where SonixED™ makes the strongest case.

Hydrovolta qualifies every project before recommending SonixED™. The sectors below represent where the combination of groundwater chemistry, brine disposal constraints, and regulatory drivers creates the strongest alignment with Hydrovolta’s capabilities.

01

Agriculture & irrigation

Brackish well water degrades soil structure and reduces crop yield. SonixED™ removes sodium and excess TDS while retaining calcium and magnesium beneficial to soil chemistry. High recovery minimises water waste in arid agricultural geographies. Active in Morocco.

Brackish water for irrigation →

Crop yield, soil health, water availability.

02

Utilities & public water programmes

Brackish wells with salinity, nitrate, hardness, or rising salinity. Selective ion removal addresses nitrate compliance without full demineralisation. The EU Drinking Water Directive sets a parametric value of 50 mg/l for nitrate — an obligation already in force, not a future deadline.

Nitrate and salinity together →

Water security, compliance, lower brine burden.

03

Remote communities & distributed sites

SalinBloc™ containerised units deploy to remote sites with full cloud telemetry and autonomous operation. No specialist operator required on-site. Islands, remote agricultural communities, construction operations, and distributed supply.

Water security, deployment flexibility, autonomous operation.

Also applies to

Other brackish water — process water and drainage — where RO struggles or brine has nowhere to go. Food & beverage and pharmaceutical processes require consistent water quality. SonixED™ delivers configurable, consistent output with a brine valorization pathway to meet tightening discharge permit constraints.

Best-fit conditions

Where SonixED™ and brine valorization perform best.

The strongest applications combine multiple of these conditions simultaneously. Hydrovolta qualifies each project honestly — including when another approach is more appropriate.

  • TDS in the 1,500–20,000 ppm range where conventional membrane recovery is limited
  • Silica or high hardness that accelerates fouling and reduces membrane lifespan
  • Nitrate, sodium, or fluoride requiring selective removal without full demineralisation
  • Brine disposal constraints: restricted discharge, inland sites, or tightening regulations
  • Brine chemistry containing NaCl, MgCl₂, or CaCl₂ at concentrations supporting valorization
  • Sites requiring pilot validation before large capital commitment
